CERAMICS

MY CERAMIC WORK  and interest in clay  is due in part to having grown up in a place that was abundant with this resource.  I recall the ruins of beehive kilns a short drive away in surrounding communities,  and clay was a common item in the art curriculum of our schools.  Subsequent exposure through college and employment as a production potter instilled an awareness and respect for the material.   Clay has been essential  to the story of humanity around the world, and has the amazing ability to create unique objects of utility as well as a medium to depict mans condition and his culture. When a person explores the tactile qualities of clay they have communion with all those who have experienced it beforehand.

Alpaca Mugs and Tiles 2002-2007

These mugs and tiles were made during our time in the camelid business.  These were made from an earthenware clay body,  with the glaze application relying on a glaze resist technique  to create the alpaca pattern.
