‘I began a YouTube channel as a platform to present the filming of drawings using a variety of iPhone cameras. I have taken a minimal approach to the production of these short films with an emphasis on the moment. Background music and ambient sounds create the audio component for each drawing. An important element of these shorts is that both the subject matter and the cell phone screen on which the drawing is being done will fit within the viewable frame when filmed. The drawings made during these films make up a new body of work i am presently refering to as the ‘Common Technology’ series. The drawings created in these films illustrate small and common objects of technology that we may use everyday. There is a sonic component that takes place with these drawings as a result of the 16x speedup in the middle of the film causing any background noise or music to be sped up along with the drawing. This creates a strangely harsh audio effect but i find that it compliments the frenetic nature of these sped up segments.
